Skills, Duels and the Kalphite
2004-09-27
Here are the latest updates from Runescape. I hope you find the first skills update useful because it was me that suggested it to Jagex... Anyway, the following quotations were taken directly from Runescape.com:
Skill Guides
Given the popularity of our recent quest journals update, we've now also introduced quick levelup guides for the various skills. Clicking on a skill in your stats menu will now bring up a table of the various advancements you have available to you at each level. We hope these will give you a quick way to check what you are working towards whilst playing.
Repeatable Skills
We've now improved the controls for various skills in the game. Where before you may have had to tell your character to make various items one at a time, many interfaces now include right-click options that allow you to produce whole batches without wearing your fingers away.
You can then watch your character make the items, as you already do when smithing bars.
There are now "make five", "make ten" and "make x" right-click options on the following:
- Spinning wheels
- Glass making
- Leather crafting
- Pottery wheels
- Silver crafting
- Fletching
Furnaces now have an option to left-click on them, which brings up an interface for you to select the quantity and type of ore you wish to smelt.
Duel Arena Scorboard
Examining the scoreboard at the front of the duel arena now shows the results of the last 50 duels on that server.
Kalphite Queen New Attack
The Kalphite queen has added a new attack to her arsenal. This ferocious creature was only ever intended to be killable by teams of players, thus keeping the dragon chain as a very rare and valuable item, and encouraging people to work together.
However, some players were starting to find methods to take her down single handed, so the queen has evolved a new ranged attack; barbed spines, which she may launch at her victims.

Server temporarily down.
2004-09-24I apologize for the site being down for approximately 3 hours this evening. I was informed on MSNM by 3 mods Ged, Stewy, and Willi of the trouble with site, and I immediately went into action to fix the problem. I now have the site up and running again, so please continue to enjoy using our family friendly site.
Thanks,
Keystone
The Latest Runescape News
2004-09-22
I, for one, think that we've had a good amount of updates recently and now, we have yet another. A minor one this time, but any update is a good update.
The following quotation was taken directly from Runescape.com:
Good Things Come in Threes
They say that good things come in threes - so it is no suprise that today's website update is three updates in one!
1) Updated Worldmap
We have updated our map of the RuneScape world to include the new areas from our most recent quest updates.
2) Game Screen Navigation Bar
We have added a navigation bar above the game window to provide quick access to useful links such as the worldmap, manual and main menu.
3) New Newsletter
Followers of the floating skull will be ecstatic to know that our favourite nature deity Guthix has returned again to spread some of his strangely worded wisdom in Newsletter 24 - Guthix ponders. Those curious to know what message Guthix has brought with him this time should head immediately to the Library of Varrock.

4 new Atlanta worlds added!
Last night we saw a record 53,000 simultaneous players!
This is great news, because more players means we can afford to do bigger updates, and also means we can afford to buy more servers and bandwidth.
To make sure there is always enough space for everyone who wants to play we have just put another 4 worlds online. 3 of them are free worlds, and 1 of them is members only. These worlds are located in Atlanta, and are our first servers in central-US.
Enjoy the extra space!
Andrew
New Big Monster!
There are reports of strange happenings in the desert south west of Shanty pass, animals have been disappearing and a large hole has appeared. Scouts were sent in to investigate, but as of yet none have returned...
Will you fare any better against what lies beneath the sand?
Test your mettle if you will, but beware, whatever crawls in the tunnels below is fierce and more than a match for even the toughest of adventurers!
New Potion!
Deep under the sand, hidden from the burning heat of the desert, grows the Potato Cactus. A strange plant with some magical properties, it's rumored that when mixed with Lantadyme and water, it produces a potion which will increase the drinkers magical powers...

Have a nice day

Runescape News - UK Servers Now Fixed
2004-09-05
This quotation was taken directly from Runescape.com:
UK servers outage (fixed)
On 4th-sept the internet connection to our uk servers failed, causing our uk worlds to become temporarily unavailable.
I phoned the company that provides the hosting & bandwidth for the uk servers, and was told that the problem was causing by their main router failing. In fact apparently not only had their main router broken, but the backup router had broken also! The situation was further exasperated by the air-conditioning to one of the racks failing, causing equipment to overheat. All this meant it took longer than expected to get everything fixed.
These problems have now been resolved, and all uk services now appear to be working normally again.
Thanks for your patience
Andrew
Everything has been sorted out then, so feel free to get back on the UK servers. Happy gaming!

UK servers temporarily down
One of the internet routers belong to our uk hosting company has failed.
I have phoned them to let them know and they say they are sending an engineer to fix it now.
Hold in there, hopefully they will fix it very soon, apart from letting them know there is a problem which I've just done there's not a lot I can do myself except wait for them to fix it.
In the meanwhile I'd recommend you just use one of our other worlds outside the UK
Thanks for your patience
Andrew
I hope no one is badly affected by this. The news shall be updated when the servers are online again.

This month's paper is dedicated to the start of the school year and the beginning of the autumn season. The editorial will give a slight history to this time of year.

Runescape Update - Herblore Additions

The following quote was taken directly from Runescape.com
Herblore Additions
Today we have expanded herblore by adding the following 2 new potions.

Ingredients: Harralander and Chocolate Dust (Grind chocolate in a pestle and mortar to get this ingredient).
Effect: Restores 10% of run energy per dose.
Super energy potion
Requires level 52 Herblore.
Ingredients: Avantoe and Mort Myre Fungi (You will need to have completed the Nature Spirit quest to get this ingredient).

New Quest, NPC Changes and Friend-Server Fixed
2004-08-24
These were quotes taken directly from Runescape.com
Troll Stronghold Quest
The Imperial Guard's attack on Death Plateau was overrun by trolls coming from the Stronghold to the North! Dunstan's son Godric was captured and taken to the Stronghold.
If you feel brave enough, talk to Denulth and travel through Trollheim to go rescue Godric.
Players with a low combat level beware, you will have to defeat some high-level trolls to complete this quest.
Changes To NPC Levels
You may notice that some npc levels have changed with this update.
Due to a bug, certain npcs levels didn't accurately show how strong or weak they really were.
Even though you now see a different level when you look at these npcs, most haven't actually changed in difficulty to kill.
~[CJH]~
----------------------------------------
Friendserver load fixed
I have fixed the problem with the friendserver occasionally struggling when large numbers of people were playing.
I have rewritten a large chunk of the friendserver system, and have also assigned it more memory. As a result it is now running about 4x faster, and should easily be able to handle all the players even at peak time.
Thanks for your patience whilst I fixed this
Andrew
