Jagex Now a U.S. Based Company

It was reported yesterday that Jagex has sold off controlling interest of the company to a U.S. based investment firm located in New York.

This could bring some potential big changes to the company who has been a leader in MMORPG game creation for several years now. What will this change in controlling interest mean to the future of the game?

Website Enhancements

Hey all and welcome to the first major site changes of RuneHQ for the new year!

Technically not all of these changes happened in 2012, but I didn't feel they warranted their own tiny topics each, so I've saved off announcing them until now. The list of changes are as follows:

1. 
   In the past you may have noticed the Site News sometimes showing one entry, but that entry disappearing the next time you looked or refreshed the page. We have made a change to once and for all prevent this from happening again. The problem was caused by having multiple database servers and they repeatedly would get out of sync with each other. Our solution was to reduce server load and remove one of the servers; therefore, it shouldn't ever be an issue again.
   


2. 
   As just stated, we have reduced server load by approximately a factor of 7. This reduced load should help in the long run with speeding up the site.
   


3. The navigation menu has been updated to better reflect what the majority of our users want to find fast. Quests, Calculators, and Treausure Trails have all been pulled out of the submenus and made a top-level item. Other items have been cleaned up or moved around. We are willing to listen to any feedback regarding this change as needed.
   


4. While the same amount of advertisements still currently remain, the way they load has now been changed. While it may still take the same amount of time overall for the entire page to load, it feels much quicker now that since the content shows up much quicker. If you have an ad-blocker on, I encourage you to check out the site without it and see what you think. We are of course always looking to improve upon our ads and are currently looking into whether it is feasible to remove some ads or not.
   


5. 
   If a DJ is currently broadcasting on the radio, it will show up on the main site index page just above the "Last Guide Updated" section. This makes it easy to know when to listen in!
   

There have been other very minor changes as well, but that sums up what we've been up to lately. We're always looking for more ways to improve the experience for everyone, so please let us know if there's anything you think should be changed by making a topic in the Forum/Website Feedback & Suggestions board.

JaGex recently posted their monthly "Behind the Scenes." It's the brand new year of 2012, the year of the dragon, and a new, great year for RuneScape! Do you find the content which they are soon releasing to be new and exciting? Or is a revamped Barrows along with a quest with a 90 skill requirement (recently changed to level 76) not enough to satisfy your RuneScape needs?

HAPPY 2012 from RuneHQ

All of us at RuneHQ want to wish all of our friends a very happy, prosperous, and healthy new year. 2012 brings in the Year of the Dragon, very appropriate for a Runescape fansite don't you think!

We have always tried to offer our family a variety of events, but I think I see a theme opportunity here. I bet that we can make sure that we provide more than a few trips to slay those dragons (we would not want them taking over Runescape) and hope that all of you can share in the fun, and collect all of those dragon hides and bones.

We have a 2012 forum topic where you can add your New Year wishes to everyone, or perhaps even discuss your new years resolutions. Check out this topic for discussion on the forums.

New Years Eve on the Radio

Staying home for the new years? Why not party with the RuneHQ Radio!?

This New Years Eve, the RuneHQ Radio will be playing music from at least 11pm GMT (UK Time) all the way through until 1am on the US west coast. We'll be rocking out with some of the hottest songs of 2011, some songs you've probably never heard of, and of course we can always take requests as well for anything you're just dying to hear!

If you have a RuneHQ Forum account, you'll be able to converse within the shoutbox on the radio page to make your requests. If you have a Ventrilo account, you may even be able to get your voice and message heard across the radio stream LIVE to everyone else! Give a shout-out to your character or clan's name... just wish everyone a happy New Year.. whatever the case may be!

What world: If you require one-on-one assistance, we are free to go to any world, but World 60 for P2P and World 61 for F2P are preferable.

I need help! What do I do?: Don't worry! Just drop into the RuneScape Mentors' friends chat, rs_mentor_cc and ask anyone there for assistance. Mentors will be on hand to help as often as possible.

I've finished, but I'd like to help!: If you've finished the event and would like to help, just drop into the friends chat and answer any questions people may have.

RuneHQ Event - Christmas Parade 2011!

The ground quakes. The citizens of Gielinor tremble. This can only mean one thing... Its that time for the RuneHQ Christmas Parade again!



What more perfect of a way could one ask to spend this holiday than by joining your fellow RuneHQ brethren and spreading joy to every corner of RuneScape in this years Christmas Parade. Just put on your most cheerful Christmas outfit and make your way on over to the Grand Exchange this Christmas to join in on our reindeer games as we walk our parade route across the land spreading the joy wherever we go!



Christmas only comes once a year, and this is sure to be a celebration you don't want to miss!
