RuneFest is Almost Here!

We are now approaching only 4 days left until RuneFest 2011! There has been so much activity going on preparing for the trip. A HUGE thank-you has to go out to Lilroo503 for his efforts in getting things organized and on track for this years trip. While others have been involved, his efforts have kept us all on track so everyone please pass him a huge THANK YOU for all of his extra work and effort.

For those of you who are yet unaware of the things RHQ is going to be involved with, check out the calendar of events with this PDF of all of the fun and activities that Jagex has planned. RuneFest Schedule
As you can see, it will be a full schedule to keep all of the attendees very busy, and the rest of us very jealous!

As you can see on the schedule, RuneHQ will be involved in not only having a stall (where we will be passing out some goodies), but also we have been invited to make a presentation entitled "RuneHQ - 8-Years in the Making" which will be presented by our own Im4eversmart and Lilroo503 (among others). October is our anniversary month so we are celebrating 8-years of fun with all of our loyal family here at RuneHQ. As one of the oldest and best known Runescape fansites, Jagex has asked us to talk about what goes into the making of a fansite,the work, the problems, the rewards. We think that this is a wonderful opportunity for the Runescape community to see what goes on behind the scenes of a fansite.

Also this year, our own Kittyhawk will be doing some 'live' interviews while at RuneFest for our radio so be on the lookout for those when she returns.

RuneScape Mentor Holiday Event Help!

Why didn't the skeleton go to the party? Because he had no-body to go with!



Yes, that's right, the RuneScape Halloween event has been released, and that means only one thing...what's that you say? Candy? Oh, make that two things then. It means the RuneScape Mentors are here to help you with the event!



Date: All through Halloween until the event is taken out of the game.

What world?: If you require one-on-one assistance, we are free to go to any world, but World 60 for P2P and World 55 for F2P are preferable.

I need help! What do I do?: Don't fret! Just drop into the RuneScape Mentors' friends chat, rs_mentor_cc and ask anyone there your problem. Mentors will be on hand to help as often as possible.



If you've finished the event and would like to help, just drop by the clan chat and answer any questions people may have.

RuneHQ IRC and Ventrilo

Looking for RuneScape help and advice? Do you just want a place to talk and hang out with other RuneHQ members and staff? RuneHQ has two features that can make this possible: RuneHQ IRC and Ventrilo!



RuneHQ IRC:



Simply connect by clicking on RuneHQ IRC (Mibbit, Chatzilla, mIRC, etc.) or RuneHQ IRC (forum application) or any IRC client that you have. You do NOT need a RuneHQ account to use our IRC! Details on how to connect manually are given below:

• Hostname: irc.runehq.com


• Port: 6667 (default)


• Channel: #runehq

RuneHQ Ventrilo:



RuneHQ has a Ventrilo voice server that you can connect to. Ventrilo is similar to Skype and Teamspeak, and allows you to talk to other RuneHQ Members. Just like our IRC, you do NOT need a RuneHQ account to use our Ventrilo server. Just pick a name and log on using the information below:

• Port: 8325

RuneHQ Forums Back Up

Welcome back to the new RuneHQ Forums. We've updated the forums to the latest version of our forum software, gone ahead and cleaned things up, and gave it a couple new skins in the process. Everyone will need to create a new account. All accounts, all topics, all everything has been removed. We may or may not help recover some topics on a case-by-case basis.

If you used your RuneScape password on the RuneHQ forums and have not changed your RS password yet, you are strongly urged to do so ASAP. If your email password or recovery question/answer is weak, it would also be advisable to secure that information.

So what exactly happened?

Well, we were the latest victims of a nasty group of people going around finding vulnerabilities in RuneScape fan sites. There was an old, outdated piece of code lingering on our site longer than it should have been and these guys took advantage of it. They managed to grab the entire members database including emails, RHQ login and display names, hashed passwords, and more.

At some point we figured out the hole in our security and a hotfix was implemented preventing this type of action further, but it was too late as they already had what they came for. When it was discovered exactly what had happened, we took the forums offline completely and began to investigate our options.

In the end we decided to completely start fresh with the forums. We decided this for a couple reasons.

• Our database had been filling up with junk for a number of years. It was time to clean it up and clear some things out anyways.


• You would all be required to at the very least enter a new password. We probably would have required a new login name as well.


• There was initially a minor glitch in the backup process with our forums.


• The hackers were also sometimes using info posted on your HQ accounts to help try and recover your accounts. Removing everything prevents them from having any current info or quite as easily being able to match up who is who.


• A number of people would ask for their accounts to be removed anyways due to a lack of trust from us now.

It was just better for everyone's safety to wipe it all. We are aware of who is responsible, so please do not post any links regarding this issue as it will only lead to an instant ban of your account.

On behalf of everyone here at RuneHQ, I'm deeply sorry that this happened and I apologize for everything that has taken place. I hope you continue to use us as your number one source for all RuneScape information as we will continuing striving to be the best help site out there.

When you re-register, please keep in mind that you should NEVER use your RuneScape password on any other website. Your password should also be complex. Here is a very short list of passwords you should never use:

• password


• dragon


• runescape


• qwerty


• abc123


• [your username]


• [anything that is one, simple, real word]

So where do we go from here?

Well if you're fairly new to the RuneHQ forums, you should go read the Introduction to the RuneHQ Forums by Ralkal to get you started. If you're not new to RuneHQ itself, you're likely new to this upgraded forum. I'll let you do most of the exploring on your own, but I would like to point out the bottom-left corner of the page where you can Change Theme. We have both a dark and a light theme different to the default one. Both of these themes are partially customizable on a per person basis (check the top-left corner after you change).

If you notice any problems with the new forums, head over to the Tracker and make a report.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and we will do our best to answer everything we can. Once again I apologize on behalf of everyone here and hope you will continue to work with us to make RuneHQ better than ever.

Multi-fansite Event!

Each fansite is unique and they all rally for the needs of players. They have worked very hard organizing a multi-fansite event for the enjoyment of all players of RuneScape.



Participating platinum, gold and silver fansites are coming together on October 1st to offer two events - a drop party, and a free-for-all snowball fight in the deep wilderness. Anyone can attend. Just bring your pink attire, your best attitude, and your willingness to enjoy the game as it was meant to be enjoyed. You might pick up some good loot, or slay a friendly foe.

Multi-Fansite "Field of Pink" Drop Party:



Help our fellow community fansites give out millions in rune, treasure trail items and gold! By grabbing them off the ground, of course.



Pink attire is not required to attend this fabulous drop party offering millions in gold and items, but it's highly recommended. Check out Thessalia's Fine Clothes for a free outfit upgrade, and choose Barrows Cerise. See drop list in further post.

"Pink Suicide" Snowball Fight Free-For-All F2P:



If your lust for items wasn't satiated by now, there's another way to get your hands on glory - no, not a glory amulet. Bank your best items (we don't want you to accidentally lose them!), grab a few air runes, a few mind runes, and head to the Rune Rocks. Hit fellow players with a barrage of air strikes and get a chance to win 200K!

• Time: 3:30pm EST (US), 7:30pm GMT+0, 8:30pm GMT+1 (British Summer Time, UK)


• World: 34 (F2P)


• Location: North Edgeville, Rune Rocks

All fansites and players will meet in North Edgeville before heading to the Rune Rocks. If your fansite leader is killed in combat before reaching the rune rocks, feel free to take it upon yourself to run there yourself. Return as many times as you like.



200K Prizes

Anonymous fansite leaders will die with 200K in their inventories. If you're lucky enough to get the cash, try not to lose it in a turn of unluck!



What's a Snowball Fight?

It's an event in the wilderness where users bring only enough runes for air strikes. The animation looks like a snowball.



What should I bring?

It's the wilderness - keep your valuables safe in the bank. Bring enough runes for about 100 air strikes, and food. Be prepared to die.



What about crashing?

Crashers with rune scimitars and better food are to be expected. Unfortunately, it can't be stopped. Try to just have fun!



I died with my 200K prize - can I get it back?

Sorry, you're out of luck. That's the wilderness, my friend.
