Please be patient about the quest guide; it is the hardest quest that has ever been released so we expect it to take some time to complete.

Rest assured that the guide will be uploaded to the site as soon as it is finished. A member is currently working on it.

The following is a direct quotation from Runescape.com

18th April 2005 - Desert Treasure

Recently a stranger claiming to represent the Museum of Varrock has arrived at the Bedabin Camp in the Al-Kharid desert. This has caused mass speculation that there is a very large Desert Treasure hidden somewhere in those shifting sands...

Yes, it's here! The massive update we promised earlier this month.

This updates includes the hardest quest so far and covers an enormous area twelve times the size of Al Kharid!

If that wasn't enough we've also added a massive surprise reward, which can only be unlocked by completing the quest. And if THAT wasn't enough we've also added a number of new training areas and a brand new Slayer monster which you will encounter along the way.

Needless to say, the dangerous climate and inevitable guardians of such a treasure hoard mean that only the very strongest and bravest adventurers should attempt to reclaim this prize.

We recommend you don't bring your most expensive items and equipment with you while doing the quest, because chances are that you're going to die at least once attempting it...

18th April 2005 - Free To Play Update

In other news, non-members can now make chocolate cakes by using chocolate bars or chocolate dust on a normal cake.

Chocolate dust has now been made a non-members object to allow you to do this, and you may now create your own chocolate dust by using a knife on a chocolate bar.

We have also added a small dungeon available to non-members in the Draynor Sewers, which includes some anvils for those aiming to smith in Draynor.

18th April 2005 - Castle Wars Change

Following feedback from our castlewars players, the bandage tables have now been moved to the castlewars spawn room.

This means you can't heal by going to the enemy teams bandage table which should make castlewars fairer and more interesting for everyone.

High levels who end up with their own teams flag now stand a chance of dying before the game ends.

Enjoy the new updates!

Temporarily, until the website is placed on the new server, RuneHQ will be in a read only format. This includes the forums. Anything done after 2:12 pm CST yesterday, will not show up due to this.

There is currently a great group of people working on moving RuneHQ to the new server, so it is only a matter of time now, and we thank them greatly for it.

Runescape Account Security
2005-04-15
RuneHQ News

All quotations are directly from RuneScape.com

12th April 2005 - Account Security

Greetings, adventurers.

It's time for another security reminder I think. These are all things we've said before, but we've got lots of new players lately, and there's advice here everyone would benefit from being reminded about. So please read this carefully! This stuff is important!

We take security very seriously here, but it's also obviously important that our players are equally careful. The most important thing to do is to set your password recovery questions!

Don't make the mistake of thinking you don't need them. Unfortunately we regularly get messages from people who thought they wouldn't need their password recovery questions and didn't set them. If you haven't set your recovery questions then we can't gurantee we will be able to give you your character back, if the unthinkable happens and you lose it.

Also even if you are convinced you will never lose your password you should still set your password recovery questions, because it also helps to protect your account. If someone else sends a fake password recovery request for your account, and the questions are NOT set, there is obviously less stuff they have to guess correctly to impersonate you. So not setting your questions is just downright dangerous.

So really, please set your password recovery questions!

Account Management:

Hopefully you are convinced now, so here is how to set them. The account management button is located on the main page at www.runescape.com and is your one stop security shop. Here you can choose to update your password, contact details and recovery questions. We strongly recommend you take the time to complete this information in case you should ever need it at a later date.

When choosing your password and recovery details, be sure to take into consideration the following:

  1. Make your password and recovery details difficult to guess.

  2. Make your password unique to RuneScape alone. ie. Do not use the same password anywhere else.

  3. Keep these details a safely guarded secret. Do not tell anyone!

  4. Avoid repetition and sequential answers for your recoveries. Eg:12,123,1234

Keeping your computer safe: In this age of technology, it is vital to keep your computer itself safe from hackers. To prevent anyone from being able to access your computer through spyware or trojan key-logging devices, there are several useful tools at your disposal:

www.zonealarm.com Here you can download a free firewall to protect your computer from external attacks.

www.hackfix.org This site supplies information on trojan/key loggers and how to remove them.

www.lavasoft.com Here you can download a free version of Ad-Aware, an antispyware device.

For further information on the safety of your computer, head to the main page and select Rules and Security > Security Tips.

Follow these rules with care and your account will remain safely in your possession. The wise adventurer should always ride on the side of caution.

New Quest Guide and Runescape Updates
2005-04-11
RuneHQ News

Many thanks to Uber for Writing the guide to The Golem Quest. View it Here.

The following is a direct quotation from Runescape.com

11th April 2005 - The Golem

The random shifting of the desert sands has once more uncovered the ruins of an ancient city, whose secrets eluded the archaologists who explored it before the Al Kharid war.

An adventurer prepared to brave the desert could complete their work, and help The Golem whose footsteps still echo around the forgotten stones.

11th April 2005 - New Theme Tune

We have also updated our RuneScape Theme Tune, which is the music that plays while you are waiting to log-in.

If you want to hear the old version, it is named Scape Original and is located in your ingame jukebox with the other game music.

Server issues and Site status.
2005-04-09
RuneHQ News

We are sorry about the performance of the site lately and we are taking actions to alleviate it once again. Our traffic has grown so much in the last few months and the current server just cannot seem to keep up with the traffic.

Weezy and I spent the day yesterday visiting with the founder of Honesty.com and current CEO of Ethical Technologies and his staff. He has offered to host our site for us. They will be purchasing the equipment we need this coming week and hopefully we can get the site moved to a better platform and have better support and eliminate the performance issues once and for all. This will also eliminate our bandwidth problems and let us worry about the site and not have to worry so much with finances.

We are extremely greatful to them for lending us an hand and helping to ensure the continued success of RuneHQ. They are also going to help us to look at ways to improve the sites ads and generate some revenue to give us a more stable income to continue to do things to improve this site.

This, by far, has to be the best group of folks I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. We are definately glad to have had the pleasure of their company. They also like to unwind and play RuneScape when they can spare a minute and have come to rely on our site for information. They want to help ensure the site is around for a very long time.

We want to say Thanks to the guys and gals at Ethical Technologies for making us feel so welcomed yesterday and for caring about including us into their family of friends!

Runescape Updates
2005-04-04
RuneHQ News

We have uploaded The Feud Quest Guide

Enjoy,

~RuneHQ Staff

The following is a direct quotation from Runescape.com

4th April 2005 - Dragon Scimitar Change

The Dragon Scimitar's special attack has been changed. Unfortunately, the original special attack wasn't working properly and it was impossible to rectify the problem.

Instead we have changed the attack so that it now uses slightly more special attack energy, 55% to be exact, and prevents your opponent from using protection prayers for 5 seconds.

Please note that the Kalphite Queen is immune to the special attack, and that it does not affect the Protect Item prayer.

4th April 2005 - Ali Morrisane and Pollnivneach

For years the Al-Kharidians have been at war with the desert folk south of the Shantay pass. Only now can strangers wander the desert freely, without fear of being imprisoned and tried for war crimes.

One of the quickest people to take advantage of this is the entrepreneur Ali Morrisane, RuneScape's self-proclaimed greatest merchant. He has set up a market stall in North Al-Kharid, but thanks to his near-mystical sales powers he can hardly keep it in stock!

Pollnivneach, a desert town, home of the super kebab and melting pot where both Kharidian and Menaphite cultures mix, has also opened its arms to travellers in what we hope will be the first of many gestures of reconciliation.

Travel to this desert town should be taken with touch of caution as the desert climate is unforgiving to careless travellers who embark without enough water.

Rumour has it that Ali Morrisane needs an errand to be carried out here, so it may prove profitable to talk to him before embarking for this town.

In other news, Diango the toy salesman in Draynor Village is now selling a new toy.

4th April 2005 - Behind the Scenes - April

April is currently being called the "Desert theme month" and will greatly increase the desert area south of Al Kharid. There will be plenty of new challenges to be found, especially with the Pyramids and Sphinx, and the communities of Menaphos, Pollnivneach and the Bandit Camp.

For years the Al-Kharidians have been at war with the desert folk south of the Shantay pass. Only recently have strangers been allowed to wander the desert freely without fear of being imprisoned and tried for war crimes. We recommend you take advantage of this while you can, who knows when the Sultan will release his next wave of desert raiders? Only time will tell.

The new area will soon boast the most difficult quest yet released in RuneScape, and also some of the toughest people you are likely to meet. Dont expect a warm and friendly welcome in some of these parts, the inhabitants are accustomed to a harsh and hostile life in the desert and see no reason for pleasantries.

Odd birds, and lumbering shadows have been seen and heard during the cold desert nights perhaps they are security for the gods who are worshipped in this quarrelsome place? No doubt Guthix will be interested if this affects the balance of power in RuneScape, I guess we will all know very quickly if it does...

New spells, new cat-based activities, new revealing storylines unravelling a few more of the mysteries of the RuneScape gods, plagues, tomb robbing, camel-trading and even troll-melting will all arrive this month, so be prepared!

Have a Nice Day

Server Performance issue
2005-04-03
RuneHQ News

UPDATE - THE MEMORY IS IN!! You should now see better performance from the server. Lets hope this takes care of the problem for a while. If you see any issues now please let us know asap.

Sorry it took so long to get this done. We were unable to do anything about the delay. We will be talking to our host in depth tomorrow about this.

Sorry about the horrible performance of the site. We ordered a memory upgrade for the server on Friday and our host is being a bunch of slow pokes.

Once the memory is added the server should come back to an acceptable level. Please bear with us. We are hounding zipservers.com but they are not responding to our requests. There is nothing more we can do, we are at thier mercy for the moment.

You can be sure come Monday morning we will be investigating moving the site to a new host!

Thanks for your patience and understanding in this trying time. You all can help us greatly by limiting your time on the site when you see bad performance times. All the traffic of thousands of people trying to access the site is causing the issues.

Credit Card Subscriptions

RuneHQ News

All quotations are directly from RuneScape.com

2nd April 2005 - Credit Card Subscriptions

Hi,

Some new members trying to subscribe via credit card over the past few days may have had difficulty with their card incorrectly not being accepted.

Our billing partner worldpay seems to be having intermittent problems. For example it seems that for aprox 5 hours between 2am GMT and 7am GMT today they were not accepting transactions.

If you try to subscribe using credit card and get an error message we recommend you simply wait a couple of hours and then try again, since the problem only seems to be happening at one particular time of day.

Whilst this is very frustrating, the security and safety of the system is in NO WAY affected. It just makes it rather difficult to subscribe if the billing system is offline when you try :-) But there is no danger in trying.

This problem appears to have been fixed now, so please try again if you had a problem earlier.

Existing members should not be affected by this in any way.

Thanks

Andrew

Donations Update
2005-04-01
RuneHQ News

We would like to send out a sincere thanks to those that have donated. The response to our request has been outstanding and overwhelming.

It is very comforting to know we have such a loyal and wonderful community of people willing to help out. We cannot begin to tell you how nice it is to have the relief of not having to worry about finances for this site for a few more months

We thank all those that could see their way to donate what they could. We always appreciate it. When we get the forum fixed we will try to give all of you that want it a donator rank. We will also give anyone who donated more then $15.00 an advanced members membership.

We have enough funds to last us a few months, and we appreciate the support, however if you have not donated as of yet and would like too, there is no reason for you to wait. The site always needs upgrades and more things like bandwidth that cost us. We can use every nickel we can scrounge up. Like I said we have to move to an unmetered server to handle the bandwidth we currently get. The new server will cost $374.00 per month. With that kind of monthly bill, the current donations won't last forever. Again, we appreciate evey donation and we are overwhelmed by your support. It is very nice to have wonderful people willing to lend us a hand.

We will continue to work our hardest to make this site the best Help site for runescape. We know there are things we could do better and we are definately looking at ways of improving and providing you with faster and more accurate data. It is a never ending task. Jagex keeps improving the game and changing things on us so we have to adapt and try to keep up.

We love this site and this community and we are grateful for all you folks provide us, both finacially and game data wise. You all need to pat yourselves on the back. Without you we would be nothing more that an average run of the mill help site. We owe our success to you and we appreciate it more than any of you will ever know. This site is time consuming and frustrating at times, but it is also one of the most rewarding things we have ever done. Thanks for your help, each and every one of you are special people in our book!

~MrStormy~

p.s. Sorry still no exta into on the forum, I am looking at it now, but not having much success. Also the server will be shut down for a brief period of time soon so we can add the much needed memory.

News Update - Site Status, Forum DOWN and guides/databases fixed
2005-03-31
RuneHQ News

Forum Update:

MrStormy has submitted a couple of support tickets to our hosting company and to Invision to get the forum going again. Due to the server being shut down the other day and the site redesign, the forum databases are going crazy..

So, Hopefully the forum will be back up live tomorrow or this weekend, whenever they get a chance to look over things and fix it.

Folks, first off I want to discuss the outage we had day before yesterday.

We used over 2000 gig of bandwidth this month. Our server is only allotted 1200 Gig. The provider recognizd the overage and shut us down until we paid for the overage. We had to fork out $485.00 just for the extra bandwidth for the month of March. This leaves us pretty much broke. The server is paid for until April 30th, but if our bandwidth usage is the same in April, we will only last about 20 days and then have to shut the site down to avoid going over 1200 gig again and another $500.00 bill.

Sorry folks but the site bandwidth is just too much for us to pay for and if we don't either move the site to a new home soon, which we are working on, or get some donations, this will be the last month for RuneHQ.

Now on to other news, All the persons, items, monsters databases, and guides should now be fixed and working. We are still working on converting some things to the new layout and fixing problems we find. Please let us know if you run across any errors so we can fix them.

So far we have had mixed reaction to the new layout and design. We know it is a big change and we hope everyone will grow to love it as much as we do. Xena_Dragon and our Graphics designer Chewy Wok have worked very hard on this new layout and I for one love it. Change is always hard for people to accept, and we are sorry for that, but we felt it was time for a new look. If we can manage to survive the cash crunch and keep the site up, this new design will definately be an improvement over what we had. Please bear with us as we continue to work out the bugs and kinks. There is tons and tons of changes behind the sceens and it is understandable with this big an effort to miss things. Trust us we are working on getting everything back to a good working state as fast as possible.

Due to the increased load caused by the massive traffic we have gotten lately the server is again getting hammered. We need to upgrade from 1 gig to 2 gig of ram. We also need to switch to an unmetered bandwidth server. With our curent company this will be an extra $100.00 per month for server costs. We simply cannot afford the upgrade at this time because the bandwidth overage drain our funds for the site. Sorry, but you are just going to have to live with the performance issues until we can get on our feet again. We are current however working on getting a new server with another provider that has generously offered the server and the bandwidth for free. The details still need worked out and we will have to move the site once we figure out the details. Let's all hope we can make this happen and soon.

Work in progress !

RuneHQ News

The forum is currently down and will be back as soon as we can fix it.

______________________________________________

We are currently experiencing a very high server load which causes a lot of pages to fail showing. This is happening because in the background we are updating all the site's pages to the new design. Please have patience while we work. It would really help us if you would come back in a few hours and let the server do its work in the meanwhile.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Runescape Update!
2005-03-29
RuneHQ News

All quotations are directly from RuneScape.com

29th March 2005 - Weapons Update

New Dragon Items

The long-awaited dragon scimitar has finally been released. Members who have completed the Monkey Madness quest can buy it from Daga's scimitar stall on Ape Atoll. Members can also get dragon plate skirts. These are dropped by the same monsters that drop the plate leg armour.

We have also reduced the cost of the Soul Runes in the Magic Guild. These runes were previously too expensive compared to the power of the spells that used them, so few people were using them.

More Weapons For Free Players

This week we have made an update on our free worlds too! Rangers were underpowered on free servers compared to mages and warriors. However they can now use mithril arrows, adamant arrows, willow shortbows, willow longbows, maple shortbows and maple longbows.

These items are can be bought from Lowe's archery shop in Varrock, or from a new arrow merchant who can be found in the village of Rimmington.
