The Ratcatchers Quest Guide has been uploaded! Thank you halk 5 and everyone who helped with it!

28 November 2005 - Rat Catchers and Rat Pits!

Adventurers, dust off your cats and feed them up with fish... today's update will have you and your moggy engaged once more in cat-astrophes of a feline flavour.

The Rat Catchers quest will have you sneaking about, experimenting with new cat concoctions and, of course, catching rats. All this will give you access to all sorts of cat-related features including a whole new minigame, new growth stages for your cat and the opportunity to give your cat a name.

Gertrude's friends will introduce you to brand new subterranean areas in some of the world's most familiar places. Here, being the best cat trainer really begins to pay off as you challenge your friends and foes for glory and the spoils of victory.

Keep your ears peeled for 6 great new audio tracks, and be sure to try out the game's first interactive musical instrument!

In other news, we have re-balanced the experience points available via the Barbarian Outpost to make the rewards more generous.

UK Ringtones and Wallpapers!

Today we've added a new feature to the website - the Jagex Shop!

Since the shop is very new, it is only available to UK customers for now. If that's successful we are planning on expanding the Shop to cover the US and other countries next.

The first items available in the shop are RuneScape Ringtones and Wallpapers for mobile phones to impress your friends! We're also planning on adding new items for sale on a regular basis.

So if you live in the UK and would like some music or pictures from the game on your mobile phone, visit the Shop now, and liven up your phone. The downloads are reasonably priced and don't require you to subscribe to a service or enter any personal details. You don't even need a credit-card.

Note: We hope to expand the shop quickly, but don't have exact dates planned for new countries/items. We will post further news on the RuneScape main page as soon as we know more - so there is no need to ask Customer Support.

First off, I hope you all had a great and wonderful Thanksgiving for those of you that celebrate this American Holiday, and the staff of RuneHQ would like to wish each and every one of you a great holiday season. Almost all Nations, Cultures, Religious Groups, etc have some glorious holiday taking place in the next month or so, and we hope you all take the time and enjoy it and celebrate with your family and friends.

Now, back to the matter at hand. I would like to revive the RuneHQ newspaper. We need your help. I need an Editor in Chief; this person needs to be a responsible dedicated individual that can dedicate quite a few hours per month to make the newspaper a success. The Editor in Chief will be ultimately responsible for the newspaper and ensuring it gets published on time and lives up to the high standards of RuneHQ. I would prefer someone with some type of journalism background or someone that can handle a management role. The editor in Chief will be responsible for Staffing the newspaper with writers, editors, graphics artists, web site developers, etc. and also for putting together and approving the newspaper on a monthly basis.

We will also need newspaper staff and moderators for the newspaper forums, but those positions will not be filled until we find the Editor in Chief to help us make those staffing decisions. If your interested in being a part of the newspaper, please DO NOT pm me at this time, I am only accepting applications for the Editor in Chief position.

Please PM me MrStormy on the forum with your qualifications if you are interested in helping us revive our newspaper. I look forward to hearing from you. Please try to include why you want the job and why I should pick you over someone else along with why you think you qualify for the position. Short Pm's that only Say "I want the Editor job" will be deleted and NOT answered. A minimum of 100 words is REQUIRED in your application and GRAMMAR and Spelling Will be looked at seriously!

22 November 2005 - Making History + minor changes

Making History

For generations, an outpost has been standing North of Ardougne. It was placed to detect incoming invaders before they had the chance to strike the fort of Ardougne. Many people have lived in this outpost, only now its current occupant - Jorral - is desperately asking for help.

Jorral has discovered that King Lathas of Ardougne recently decided this 'worthless' outpost should be revamped. He plans to make this into a new alchemists' lab for his own private (and some say corrupt) work. Jorral strongly believes that the outpost has a deep and meaningful history, but try as he might he just can't piece it together. He would like you to discover this history so that he may stop this mockery and convince the king of better plans for the building.

Jorral says he's sure you'll be rewarded with some useful artifact, even if he has to find something from his own collection of historical relics!

As you search for this history, you'll be taken on a hunt for buried treasure that you can continue after the quest, with unique rewards awaiting you at the end. Although this quest is aimed at mid-level players, we hope higher level players will enjoy piecing together some of the early tales of Ardougne, as well as the chance to wield a new kind of weapon.

So how about it, are you talented enough to make history?

Other small changes

The 6th Barrow Wight

Players opening the chest at the end of the Barrows will now confront the final brother, assuming they havent met him already while progressing through the crypt. This will save players having to run backwards and forwards through doors to try and encounter him.

Agility shortcuts

Agility potions will now help players use all of the agility shortcuts we added earlier in the year.

Database Updates and PHP Help Neeeded
2005-11-19
RuneHQ News

I have added a couple new fields to the Items Database - Stackable and Requirements to Wear/Weild/Stats Bonuses. The default value on all items was set to no for Stackable when I made the database changes since most items are not stackable. We will need to go update items to correct those that are indeed stackable. There is no information in the Requirements to Wear/Weild/Stats Bonuses, so it will not show up until that data is put in. Please do not tell us these items are wrong, we know this. Please give us a couple weeks to correct the database. After a couple weeks, if you see items that are stackable and we have not updated it, please feel free to let us know. If you see Items that have requirements to wear or stats bonuses associated with them, and the data is not there after a couple weeks, let us know.

I am looking for some experienced PHP coding help for the site. I am not looking for kids who think they know PHP, sorry. I know some of you kids are pretty good, but I am looking for a responsible adult I can count on. If you are interested, please pm me on the forum and I will give you my email so you can email me a copy of your current resume. I need someone that can dedicate a few hours of time each week to help out. We need customizations to the forum as well as other PHP scripting assistance. I would prefer someone who has extensive experience in this area. I am not at this time looking for someone looking to learn PHP or anyone wanting to broaden their minimal PHP skills.

Depending on finances for the site after paying bills and figuring out our needs we can discuss a payment amount for your contributions. This site expenses are a big strain on our budget and we probably cannot afford a lot, but we will do the best we can.

Imposter MrStormy On the Loose!
2005-11-15
RuneHQ News

If you get contacted on MSN by MrStormy, there is a 99.99% chance the person is an imposter! MrStormy only has RuneHQ STAFF members on his MSN with a very few Exceptions! I am extreemly too busy to chat with folks on MSN, sorry but those are the facts. We also do not make people Staff over MSN, so if this idiot asks you to be on staff, they are just pulling your chain.

The persons MSN e-mail address that was attempting to impersonate me this morning was runescape1best@hotmail.com, but no doubt he will change it once he is found out and everyone stops believing him. If you want to have some fun, add this person and turn the tables on him, make him think you believe him and then once he realizes you know he is an imposter, harrass the living daylights out of him. Let's show this idiot it is not nice to scam people!

My MSN will always contain runehq.com as the domain on the email address, no imposter can set up a runehq.com email!

Please report any impersonations and please save the MSN logs and forward them to us so we can contact MSN and prosecute the imposter to the full extent of the law.

This also applies to Weezyrowe or any of the other Admin/Site Owners or staff members of this site. Do not be fooled by an imposter. No doubt this news will have other idiots trying to pull off this scam. Trust us when we say none of the admins or high level staff of the site will fall for this scam and we will prosecute anyone we find trying this! We also will not contact regular members of the site on MSN without first contacting you via PM on the forum. This is just another low life attempt to scam people and we will not tolerate this.

~Thanks,
The One and Only Real MrStormy~

A group of dark wizards is planning to set another demon loose on the world, and the only way to foil their plot is from within! This quest features further expansion to the Demon Slayer and Golem storylines and some very unique characters to meet along the way.

Waterbirth Island - deeper, darker, deadlier!
2005-11-07
RuneHQ News

Quotations taken directly from Runescape.com

7 November 2005 - Waterbirth Island - deeper, darker, deadlier!

Rumours echo throughout the Rellekan longhall that the legendary Dagannoth Kings have returned once more to Fremennik lands. Naturally, the local Fremenniks are delighted to have an opportunity to test their battle skills against such fearsome mythical beasts, and a number of hardened warriors have headed immediately to Waterbirth Island, home of their Dagannoth prey. None have yet returned however...

Deep inside the Waterbirth Island dungeon a once hidden passageway has opened up, revealing a labyrinthine series of tunnels far below sea level, filled with strange creatures far less timid than their cousins who had previously been discovered in Waterbirth Island, along with all new monsters...

At the very lowest levels of the dungeon, players may find the legendary Dagannoth Kings awaiting them to try their combat prowess against, with rare and unique drops for those who succeed in defeating them. Group together with your friends, and venture together into the murky depths of Waterbirth Island for glory and treasure aplenty... if you dare...

This update features a huge expansion to the existing dungeon on Waterbirth Island, North-west of the Fremennik Provinces. This update includes new training areas for all combat classes, along with a variety of new monsters, weapons and equipment (including a new piece of rare Dragon equipment) for those powerful enough to survive the perils in wait.

3 November 2005 - Behind the scenes - November

Another exciting month planned for RuneScape with various improvements to existing storylines and histories. This will also include at least one new weapon for each of the combat types, a new training area and new stages of growth for your cats.

A huge expansion to the dungeon on Waterbirth Island has revealed many previously unnoticed depths... and many previously unseen new monsters to fight! This dungeon update will offer several monsters to train on, some familiar and others all new, including a selection of particularly dangerous level 300+ monsters whose unique drops will be of interest to all combat classes. Rumours overheard in the Fremennik Halls suggest that it may even hold new dragon equipment...

This dungeon will be open to everybody regardless of whether they have done the Fremennik Trials or not, but those who have completed their trials may find allies in strange places...

Also this month we will be seeing a continuation to the Demon Slayer storyline featuring another nasty demon trying to take over the world!! This one's got much more of a comedy slant to it although care must be taken, as always, when demons are involved. Watch out for Evil Dave, probably the worst evil villain ever in the history of villains. He's like sooooo evil!! Rewards for this one include a new and improved Silverlight!!

For the cat lovers out there we introduce "The Rat Pits" which includes new growth stages for your beloved moggy. No longer will they be just old and fat and making sarcastic comments... instead take them along to cat training areas, where being the best cat trainer really does pay off. It also introduces a new storyline and quest about the rat catchers of RuneScape. With updates to Varrock, Ardougne and several other places it's definitely the largest update of the month. Look out for Jimmy Dazzler, Hooknose Jack and the whole cast of new characters which await this "pied-piping, minigame-playing, cat-training extravaganza" of an update.

On top of this we will be expanding on some of the Histories of Ardougne. Players will be invited to investigate an old building that King Lathas has his eye on for redevelopment. Originally designed to keep threats away from the city, the old walls of this tower would surely tell a fantastic tale if they could talk. Can you help save this place from the terrors of Lathas' gnome-demolition machines? A special treasure hunt and prayer rewards will be available for those that can.

Watch out for more readers' letters... that is... if you have time to read them in between all the fantastic updates this month.

Please remember - this weekend (5-6th of November) will be the last chance to interact with our Lumbridge swamp zombies, Grim Reaper and trick or treating kids as they will be removed with the next update.

31 October 2005 - Halloween Update!!

Shadies and Gentleghouls.... Mwa haha ha haaa ha..... it's halloween!! For this week only there are some spooky halloween events running:

  • The Lumbridge swamps are definitely not for the faint hearted this time of year. The halloween zombies are around, and not only are they terrifying enough to unlock the new Scared emote, but you can collect your very own zombie head to talk to (if you can catch it), as a spooooky halloween souvenir.

  • Dust off those old bits of costume and head over to Lumbridge where the local kids are trick or treating!! Sadly the kids aren't too scared of adventurers since they see quite a few everyday... Perhaps the zombies in the swamps can lend you a helping hand? (or head!)

  • Rumours that the Grim Reaper himself is making an appearance are completely unconfirmed, but that's probably because everyone who saw him was already dead. Just be sure that if you do decide to visit the reaper to make sure you bank your items first!

Please note - The halloween event will be removed next week. The zombie head and the horror emote will remain, but only for those lucky enough to unlock them this week! All the zombies, Lumbridge kids and sweets will vanish.

Rum Deal

Make yourself shipshape and prepare for an adventure of mystery and mayhem, with zombie protesters, a massive new secret island, a new slayer creature, mad machinery and more zombie pirate / squid-based fun than you can shake a peg-leg at!

Can you survive the terrors of Braindeath Island? Danger will confront those that travel there from every corner, and not least of all from the 'rum' they are brewing. Those that have what it takes will be gifted with a blessed tool of light, amongst other rewards. Put on your pirate hats and jump ship landlubbers, as time, tide and the living dead wait for no man.

Head out me hearties when ye hear the yard arm bell a-ringin' - rally to Pirate Pete on the Morytania coast now and find out if it really is a Rum Deal!
