RuneHQ News

The forum database has successfully been moved to our new database server, and the final part of the move for runehq.net should be completed by tomorrow afternoon. The forum is now back online and usable and hopefully you should see a speed increase.

There will undoubtably be things that need to be updated/fixed after the final move is completed. Please capture as much info on any errors as possible and let me know when you find them by posting in the RuneHQ Questions and Suggestions forum.

Do NOT upload anything to the forum or the gallery within the next 24 hours! Do not remake your dynamic signature or your underbanners within the next 24 hours! Any of these changes WILL be lost!

Mogres, Lizards, Pet Fish, Potions and Potatoes!
2005-10-24
RuneHQ News

Quotations taken directly from Runescape.com

24 October 2005 - Mogres, Lizards, Pet Fish, Potions and Potatoes!

Skippy and the Mogres

A new resident in the Rimmington area can now be found hurling bottles and insults out into the ocean. Skippy was once a fisherman, but now he enjoys nothing more than a hard day's ranting about the huge, evil monsters that shattered his sanity. Players who manage to wring some truth from his deluded rantings may unlock the secret of the new slayer monster, the Mogre.

Fishbowls and Pet fish

Players that enjoy talking to fish more than eating them will be quite happy with the new update to the glassblowing section of crafting. Fishbowls are now available and waiting to be filled from the Aquarium in Catherby.

Ali M's Associates

Something is afoot in Al Kharid. Those of you who have been helping out Ali Morrisane with his business enterprises may find that he seems to have something else planned soon, and now has some... associates along to help him.

Another slayer monster - Desert lizards

Further south in the desert, there are rumours of large vicious lizards attacking travellers, and the Slayer masters are now offering adventurers a chance to slay them for fun and profit. These large lizards love the heat of the desert, and so the Slayer shops have stocked up on boxes of cold ice that can shock weakened lizards into expiring.

Cooking additions

The farmers of RuneScape have also made some improvements. Several farm buildings now contain dairy churns, which can be used to make cream, cheese and even butter. Cooks can now also make baked potatoes, and the new dairy products will make excellent toppings for those to create the perfect potato.

Herblore Addition - Saradomin Brew

The herblore skill has been expanded by one new potion - the Saradomin Brew. Requires herblore level 81 Ingredients: Toadflax herb, crushed bird's nest (Grind an empty bird's nest with a pestle and mortar to create this ingredient.) Effects: +15 hitpoints, +20 defence, -10 strength, -10 attack.

A complement to the Potion of Zamorak, it's a potion intended to aid survival as opposed to destruction.

Gnome Ball Coach

Up at the Gnome Ball Field, the players have another Gnome to contend with - their frustrated coach! In between his shouts of encouragment to his team, he may spare you some time to answer questions on the game and its various intricacies. His knowledge spans from the tactics and history of the game, to the strange stars who've earned their fame over the years. He walks around the edge of the field itself, and you'll recognise him by his distinctive cap, moustache and sheep-skin coat.

Also be aware that we have released two new random events to keep you on your toes while training!

Mourning's Ends Pt II and Wanted!

The Wanted Quest Guide has been uploaded. Thanks goes to Alex201285 and all those who helped with it.

17th October 2005 - Mourning's Ends Pt II

Arianwyn waits patiently for your return with information on the increased Mourner activity in West Ardougne, and as the pieces finally fall into place, the magnitude of the situation becomes all too clear. An ancient lock has fallen apart, and it is up to you to make sure that the secrets it protects remain just that, a secret.

Huge rewards wait for those of you who feel up to the challenge, but progress will be tough. The temple has stood for generations and will not be easily conquered. Players are advised that this is without doubt the most difficult of all the puzzles in the game, and we expect that only a few will be able to complete it in the first few days of release. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed creating it.

Remember, in this quest, victory is for those who are up to the challenge, not for those who seek others to solve the mystery for them without trying first!

Use all your wits and guile in Mourning's Ends Pt II.

17th October 2005 - Wanted!

A clerical error by the Temple Knights has meant that all applications to their order by those not White Knights already have been denied, by ancient law.

Luckily, the ever-resourceful Temple Knights have found a loophole to this law that will allow membership applications to continue in return for the performance of a single deed in the name of the White Knights.

As luck would have it, a dangerous criminal exiled many years past has returned once more to spread terror among the civilised lands of RuneScape - should you be able to catch him in the name of the White Knights, membership of their organisation as well as the Temple Knights is assured.

Prove your worth to the White Knights by capturing this criminal, and you will gain limited access to their armouries. Continued demonstration of your commitment to their ranks, by waging war on the Black Knights that have plagued them eternally, will increase your access to their armour and weapons.

Do you have what it takes to become a White Knight Master?

As a result of the further distinction between the Temple Knights and the White Knights, the Temple Knight armourers have made a small redesign to their equipment to show their elite standing.

How Wanted! do you feel?

RuneHQ News

First off, let me apologize for the issues with the site the last few days, I know it is frustrating. We are just as frustrated as you about them. We are working on resolving them and I will explain the reasons for the issues below.

We have decided to part ways with Ethical Technologies. Things did not work out as we had hoped. We would like to thank them for hosting us for the last few months and wish them the best, but because of issues we are not at liberty to discuss, we are no longer hosted on thier servers.

I moved the forum last week to our old server on RuneHQ.net temporarily to make the transition easier on me. The forum has had issues because the server just could not handle the load. I also moved the main site, RuneHQ.com to a new single server this weekend temporarily. Both servers are being replaced in the next couple days with a very robust cluster of servers.

This unfortunately means I will have to move the site and the forum once again to their permanent new home. The main site should not be noticed by anyone during the move, the forum however will require a considerable amount of time to resolve the DNS changes. The forum may be down 12-72 hours depending on how long it takes for you to get the updates for the server path on the internet. Usually this happenes in 12-18 hours but can take longer.

We thank you for your patience and continued support. We will strive to make things better in the long run, and again we are sorry for the issues and the site being unavailable at times.

TzHaar Fight Caves and Behind the Scenes
2005-10-04
RuneHQ News

Quotations taken directly from Runescape.com

4 October 2005 - Behind the scenes - October

Welcome to another Behind the Scenes article to whet the appetites of mystery and sharpen the swords of intrigue.

To kick-start the month we have the second part of the highly successful TzHaar Pits. The humans can obviously fight well in a disorganised rabble, but how are they on their own? Players fight wave after wave of TzHaar enemies until finally they face the wrath of the TzTok-Jad (who, just out of interest, makes the Kalphite Queen look a bit "Imp-like"). New onyx gems, several new monsters, new cloaks and a new set of jewellery are all available after this update.

Also this month we have 3 new quests for you. The long awaited Mournings Ends Pt 2 WILL be released this month after some serious work over the last few weeks to prepare it for your eager minds. What have the mourners found deep beneath the Ardougne sewers? Are the rumours about a new rune rock true? Is it really the most fiendish puzzle EVER? Who knows? Well... we do... but it's for you to find out. Much more than just the answer can be found after completing the quest, so be prepared for some additional labour once the "Temple of Light" has been made secure again.

The second planned quest for this month is the next part to the growing Temple Knight storyline, called Wanted. This time, after successfully enrolling, the player has to go back to the white knights and serve as a squire. "What, just stand about in Falador moaning about losing my knight's sword for ages" I hear you scream? No, those tricky temple knights have a plan to fast-track you round complications like that. New armour and the introduction of the communication orb will accompany that update.

The third quest for this month focuses on something we have neglected ever since we banned rum from the mainland..., And that's PIRATES. Well, there is that No-beard chap at the Agility Arena, but pirates won't talk about him since the "accident". Arrr, yarrr, and arrr again, pirates be the salt o' the earth and o' the sea, aye, that they be. Avast, grab yer nearest belaying pin an' swing yer peg leg o'er the yard arm for ye be entrin' into Braindeath Island, and no mistake. No parley to be 'ad 'ere young laddy me Jim... only a lot of angry, and dead, pirates. Arrr.

Also this month we will be introducing lots of slayer monsters such as Mogres and sand lizards, more mini-tasks, skill updates, NPCs, pet goldfish, mad crazy fishermen, a new potion and random chat options around the game to continue with our promise to update all areas of the map. Keep your eyes peeled for something new where you least expect it.

4 October 2005 - TzHaar Fight Caves

With the influx of humans into their city, and especially to the Fight Pit, the TzHaar have opened up another area to vistors. Can you survive the beasts that dwell in the dark of the TzHaar Fight Cave?

This new expansion includes:

  • 1 new enchant spell

  • 1 new gem, Onyx

  • 2 new capes

  • 3 new jewellery items

  • 4 new monster types

  • A new minigame, the TzHaar Fight Cave.

The TzHaar Fight Cave

With the success of the King Black Dragon and the Kalphite Queen in the past, we have decided to add another boss encounter. To give it a bit of a twist and make it more of a challenge, the encounter is single player only and involves waves of creatures leading up to the final boss fight. The creatures you encounter are all very different from each other, so tactics will play a big part in your struggle. The objective is to survive for as long as you can, and if possible stay alive right to the end for an even bigger reward. As with the Fight Pit, death in the Fight Cave does not result in item loss and won't teleport you to Lumbridge. So really you have got nothing to lose!

New Onyx Jewellery

As they delve further into the depths of Karamja, the TzHaar have uncovered a new gemstone known to us as Onyx. These rare gems can now be bought from the TzHaar merchants in their raw and uncut form. Starting at level 67 Crafting players will be able to make Onyx rings, necklaces, and amulets with these gems. Onyx rings and amulets can also be enchanted using the new Enchant spell at level 87 Magic.

RX3 Updated! and now broke again and now fixed again!
2005-09-28
RuneHQ News

E-Razor has been hard at work and has once again updated RX3, so that it will work with the recent changes Jagex has done. Please manually update the file, once again by running the Updater.exe in the RX3 directory. Remember, if you currently have RX3 running you will have to shut it down to update it. If you receive an error after updating and opening it (it will read something like "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."), then you will need to go in and delete your world data file (WorldData.dat in the RX3 folder) manually also and then try to run RX3.

Thank you again for your patience while we make the adjustments and a big thanks to E-Razor for his fast handling of the situation.

Sorry, Runescape has again updated their server page for the worlds and RX is now broke again. E-razor is working on it.

Due to recent changes by Jagex to runescape.com, RX3 was broken. E-Razor has worked out the changes and has again won the battle in the never ending fight to keep RX3 the best thing since sliced bread, Good JOB! E-Razor

Please update RX3 by closing it if you have it running, and then going to your Start Menu, All Programs, Runescape Xplorer 3 and then running RX Updater. Once it comes up click next to find the update and then next to update it and then once updated click Finish.

This should update RX3 to the latest version for you.

26 September 2005 - New readers letters

We are pleased to announce that our postbag minions have finished sorting through a variety of amazing questions from you, and we can now bring you the first in a new series of letters. We have traveled across RuneScape with your questions frantically avoiding being eaten alive while asking these questions to a wide selection of NPC's. "Postbag from the hedge" issue one is now available in the letters section of the website to be read and enjoyed by all. Thank you for all questions submitted. Keep them coming, we look forward answering them for the next issue. No postbag minion was hurt, burned or slaughtered in the making of this news letter. Click!

26 September 2005 - New Look Website

We have changed our website to have a great new-look front page and updated many of the pages and graphics. The major changes are:

  • New-look Front page - with new navigation links and summaries of the latest news stories

  • Pages are now wider, allowing us to show you more content than before

  • Updated graphics - many of our pages have been redesigned with new graphics to make them even better

  • No more secure menu - we have put all the links from the secure menu onto the front page (of course the services are just as secure as before!)

  • Less adverts - many sections such as our manual are now completely advert free!

  • Higher security logins - when you log-in to the website, your log-in is now restricted to what you logged-in to do. For example, if you log-in to check your messages and leave your computer unattended, the worst that can happen is that someone using your computer can also read your messages. They won't be able to set contact details, post on the forums or anything else as you. Of course we'd still recommend you ALWAYS log out of the website when leaving your computer unattended.

We understand that it might take a little while to get used to where the new links are, but we've made sure all your favourite sections are still available from the front page. Once you've got used to the new design the new navigation should be easier and more intuitive to use, as we've worked hard on arranging things more logically. We believe that you will find the new website easy to use, and hope that you enjoy using it!

TzHaar reworks and Mage Arena changes

The popular fight pits have received a fair amount of feedback on our forums over the last week, so we decided to run some of your suggestions past the TzHaar. They weren't exactly pleased that a bunch of humans who had just been invited in started telling them how to do things better, but they were willing to listen.

The changes are:

  • More viewing orbs have been added to the waiting area, so players in there can spot people cowering in the corners.

  • A healing spell has been added to the hot vent gate. This will restore the hitpoints of any leaving contender and cure any poison afflicted.

  • The actual process of entering the pits has also changed. Now, people in the waiting arena will automatically join the fight without being asked. The waiting time has also been reduced.

Mage Arena

The entrance to the Mage Arena has also been changed. Webs and a lever have been added to prevent people using it as a quick exit point.

New graphics for Port Sarim, Rimmington and Thurgo's Peninsula

Following our initial free-world update of 22nd February this year (Lumbridge and Draynor), this week the area of Port Sarim and Rimmington has also been enhanced. Feel free to wander down to the new-look Docks, where you'll also find a new and improved jail. If you want some combat action then Melzar's Maze has also had a lick of paint, as has the Crafting Guild and Make-over Mage's house. Adventurers should also be on the look-out for some new Elemental Magi that are wandering outside the Falador city walls.

The Graphics team is currently working on the next phase of this improvement to the Free Area, which will include an overhaul to Draynor Manor, Falador and the Barbarian Outpost.

26 September 2005 - A Tail of Two Cats

For years, Bob the cat has wandered the fields of RuneScape, confusing those around him with his random meows... but who is this social enigma? Many rumours have spread round about who, what or why he is, but nobody truly knows the truth... or do they? Unferth the unfortunate local of Burthorpe has sadly left his garden gate open one time too many, and Bob has gone missing.

This quest features romance, heroes, legends, intrigue, destiny, and a whole bunch of other amazing things, including some fantastic cutscenes and a very, very lovesick Bob. Can you look after pets, crusade across deserts, use your home made Bob tracking device and save the day? Would you like one of RuneScape's most popular characters to owe you a favour? If so, check out the A Tail of Two Cats quest page now. You're bound to learn more than you thought...

Runescape Updates
2005-09-19
RuneHQ News

Quotations taken directly from Runescape.com

19th September 2005 - Security feature - Bank PIN

The Bank of RuneScape is launching its new Bank PIN system today. Customers may ask for a 4-digit security number to be set on their bank accounts. If they do, they will be required to enter this number before they can remove items from their banks (but they shouldn't have to enter it more than once in each login session). This is intended to provide a little extra protection for players' items if their RuneScape accounts get stolen.

Please note, this feature is available to free and member accounts.

Customers interested in the Bank PIN system must read the Bank PIN FAQ page before trying to set a PIN.

Please remember:

  • Once you have requested a PIN on your bank account, you will have to wait 7 days before it becomes active. This delay is intended to protect players from having PINs put on their accounts by other people.

  • If you forget your PIN, you will have to wait a few days before you can take anything out of your bank. Customer Support will not be able to tell you the number.

  • You should NEVER tell ANYONE your PIN. Our staff will NEVER ask you to say your PIN in the game, nor will we ever require you to e-mail it to us, nor enter it on any website form. Anyone trying to make you do these things is a scammer!

19th September 2005 - Massive minigame - Fight Pits

Beneath the Karamja volcano there lies a hidden city, inhabited by strange mysterious creatures known as TzHaar.

While they're normally secretive creatures they have decided, for reasons best known to themselves, to open up part of their city to outsiders. Dare you take on the might of the TzHaar Fight Pits?

Access to this area can be found via the Karamja volcano dungeon.

This new underground city includes:

  • 2 brand new map squares featuring some of the greatest graphics ever released into the game

  • new monster types

  • 7 new pieces of combat equipment (above rune level) for all 3 of the combat types

  • A bank and new shops

  • A new minigame, the TzHaar Fight Pit.

The TzHaar Fight Pit

Following the success of our Castle Wars update last year, we have decided to make another player versus player combat minigame. To give players more variety, this is a somewhat different formula to Castlewars, with less focus on the team tactics and more on the me versus the world style of gameplay. The objective in the pit is simple Kill or be killed. Last one standing wins. If death does not flow freely enough for your TzHaar spectators they will hurry things along, so dont spend too much time guarding your friends - eventually youll find they turn on you or face the wrath of the TzHaar.

Although dying in the city itself will still mean normal death, dying in the fight pits themselves is exactly the same as dying in Castle Wars (no item loss and no deathtrip to Lumbridge), so you have no excuse not to visit! Try out the fight pits today!
