25th August 2005 - Hiscores increase to 1 Million

As more players join our community it has been getting gradually harder to get into the hiscores. Therefore we have increased our hiscores to contain the top 1,000,000 players in each skill!

This means more people should now be able to take part in the hiscores and see how they compare with their friends.

Note: If you are not already listed you will not appear in the hiscores until you next logout. You also still need a minimum of 30 in a skill to be listed.

23rd August 2005 - Blast Furnace

The Mining Consortium in Keldagrim has finally completed work on its Blast Furnace, the pinnacle of Dwarven engineering and the most efficient ore-processing machine in RuneScape. But the Consortium is suffering from a shortage of workers, so any visitors who want to use it must get their hands dirty!

Players who are prepared to work together can gain experience in a variety of skills and smelt ore with only half the coal required by a regular furnace.

22nd August 2005 - Return of the Letters page

Return of the Letters page

If you could ask any character in RuneScape a question, what would it be? How would you approach a greater demon and ask why he drops tuna and reels of thread? What would you say to the Mysterious Old Man if you had the chance? If only they could talk back... well, now they can in the new-look letters page!

The great powers that be have decided to open the floor to ALL of RuneScape's population, both nasty and nice. Questions you have been longing to ask favorite characters such as Rantz, Bob the Cat, King Vargas, Party Pete, Iban, Peer the Seer and even Imps etc. can now be answered. If you have questions for ANY of the non-player characters who feature in the game, let us know by contacting them through.

As an example:

Dear Sick-looking sheep number 3, I have recently noticed that you seem to be the sheep that gets the most attention. I've seen you in banks, blocking bridges, even in the wild miles away from your home. How do you do it? Is it because you are less diseased than the other sheep or do you offer some kind of cattle prod bonus? Do you dance on command or something? Sick-looking sheep number 3, we love you.

Lucky questions selected will be included in the Letters pages. Fantastic questions may even be added to the NPC in game, so your question could become part of our in-game content.

Sadly Saradomin, Guthix and Zamorak (boo hiss) have decided that talking to us mortals is too distracting and it is unlikely that they will be able to respond to many questions, so please don't write to them. If they have anything to say, they will do so when they are ready.

We look forward to reading your questions. Expect the first of the letters pages to be released in October!

Please note that the email address should not be used to contact Jagex in any other way. Mail sent to the postbag for any other purpose will be deleted immediately.

Good Luck.

We have put up some polls on the site forums that we need you to vote on. These are requesting data we will use in proceeding forward.

The two new polls are "Please tells us what is the average annual income of your household" and "What Is Your Education Level?".

Also if you have not voted on this poll, We would appreciate your input here as well:

"System Demographics"

We need you to be as honest as possible and please do not vote with inaccurate data. The results of these polls will help us determine how to proceed with some of our ideas. It will also help our advertisers determine what type of ads to place on the site and how much to pay RuneHQ for the advertising. Your support is greatly appreciated in this and other polls on the site, you are helping us out by taking the time to answer these important topics with desired data needed for decisions about the future of the company and your entertainment.

15th August 2005 - Rogue Trader

Ali Morrisane, despite his recent foray into the aeronautical transport business and the numerous litigations which Gnome Air filed against him to the Supreme Rune Court as a result, has found himself twiddling his entrepreneurial thumbs again. This time, aspirations of becoming RuneScape's first super stall proprietor are causing him sleepless nights. Have you got what it takes to aid this rogue trader?

Ready yourself to traverse the vast Kharidian desert and further afield to engineer business concessions. Successful adventurers will reap the rewards of Ali M's expanded business empire, with access to new shopping opportunities. A word to those hot-headed adventurers in our midst, this is not a job for the addle minded or the empty headed, so prepare to lay down your wands and weapons and take up to the challenge of some RuneScape's most brutal brain bogglers.

~~~~~~~Update~~~~~~~
The Forum has been put back in service. We were able to recover the data from last nights backup before the maintenance began. Anything posted this morning or any pm's from earlier today were saved but will not be put back unless it is critical. Please contact us if you need this data.
We would like to again apologize for this issue, the growth of the site is causing us to have to continually update things to keep up, and these changes are not without problems.
We do our best to minimize these things and address them quickly when they occur. We are sorry this problem was so hard to overcome quickly. There is a lot of factors involved and we learned some valuable lessons. We are taking measures to ensure things like this do not happen again.
If you registered on the forums this morning after the maintenance please re-register. We will try to put back the accounts that we have knowledge of that are still in the backup from this morning.
All of us here are doing our best to make RuneHQ and all of our future endevors your entertainment choice on the web!
By the way, How many burnt lobsters do you have???
RuneHQ forums are currently down and may be down the better part of the day while we resolve some issues.
We performed a software upgrade last night of the MySQL server and things did not go well. We, at the current time have lost all forum data from yesterday Aug 10, 2005. This includes all posts, pm, registrations and forum changes that were made.
We are attempting to recover from this but it may take some time, if it is at all possible.
We are truly sorry for this inconvienience and are working hard at getting this resolved if possible and as soon as possible. If it turns out not to be possible, we will have to live with the loss of yesterdays data and try to pick up the pieces.
Tai Bwo Wannai Clean-Up
2005-08-09
RuneHQ News
The Temple Of Ikov Map has been uploaded! Please thank tony311 for this helpful map.
The following is a direct quotation from Runescape.com
9th August 2005 - Tai Bwo Wannai Clean-Up
The villagers of Tai Bwo Wannai have returned since some brave adventurers resolved the Jungle Potion Quest, but they're not happy about the jungle encroaching back into the village or the run-down rotten fencing.
If you happen to be passing through Tai Bwo Wannai, would you mind giving the local villagers a hand? You can train your woodcutting skill and who knows what you might find as you're hacking away with your machete? And the locals are always grateful, rewarding you for the favours you perform so you can really enjoy what the village has to offer.
Of course, you need to be prepared for any eventuality, as you never know what's lurking in the jungle thicket! Perhaps a deadly poisonous Bush Snake? Or a vicious jungle spider? Maybe a rare and useful plant? Or a mineral-rich rock?
Foolhardy, brave or even courageous adventurers of every shape and persuasion may find the route to new intermediate-level ranger armour here. Is it the route to certain riches or the road to certain death? Or perhaps just the route to a nice relaxing village break by the sea, away from all that dreadful fighting!
And village life may not be all that different from adventuring after all! What with the strange local delicacies, the physical incarnations of menace and the bounteous finds, it's a veritable home away from home!
This update refreshes the Tai Bwo Wannai Village area with a fun and exciting addition to the Woodcutting skill. Featuring:
  • 3 new machete types, and new uses for your lower level gems.
  • Five new ranger armour items for intermediate level players.
  • New local jungle currency and a special shop in which to use it.
  • New jungle villager costumes in three different colours.
  • 3 new and unique jungle NPC types to tackle within Tai Bwo Wannai.
  • 3 new shields with unique attributes.
  • New food item to restore your run energy.
  • New addition to farming allowing you a new crop to grow.
  • Scary new masks.
  • New food item for the jungle area (spider on a stick).
  • Innovative postal system to get items from the area back to your bank.
  • Two new wood types and a new proboscis item to collect for future expansions.
In other news...
Watch out for yet more new random events as you travel the world, including wandering pirates, the return of Niles, Miles and Giles and the chance to be kidnapped by an evil cat! Details are given in our manual.
Runescape News
RuneHQ News
Quotations taken directly from Runescape.com
8th August 2005 - Behind The Scenes - August
This month sees some very interesting firsts in the world of RuneScape. This week, we see the release of the first woodcutting minigame. Yes, woodcutting doesn't have to be about just chopping down trees anymore! The locals will be waiting for you with open arms and plenty of community spirit in Tai Bwo Wannai Village. Experiment with different machetes while helping the villagers rebuild the broken fence to keep the wildlife at bay. Play with trading sticks, witchdoctors, mosquitos and all sorts of jungle antics in this very unique update.
Ali M has also been seen making a few business enquiries amongst his fellow Kharidian traders. No doubt he could do with a hand, especially when it comes to the mysterious boxes being used to transport runes safely around the desert. Rumour has it that the locking mechanisms have been designed by a Ms. Sue Duku, so don't expect a lockpick or a crowbar to get you through. Get involved with RuneScape's first multi-stockists, where the goods available depend entirely on player actions.
Also this month be prepared for heightened traffic to Keldagrim when the long awaited blast furnace finally opens its gates to humans. Only the greatest of RuneScape's smiths may run the furnace, but the dwarves are always looking for people to help power the flames in this magnificent machine. Bring your friends or pay for some help in RuneScape's first multi-player smithing experience.
The special soil for King Roald's garden has finally arrived and the Queen is organising a surprise for him after his annual holiday. Get involved in RuneScape's first grand statue heist and indulge in a spot of gardening to find that inner peace or just get in favour with the local royalty it can't really hurt, can it? I mean, it's not like RuneScape royalty ever gets you into trouble is it? *cough Lathas cough*
In other unrelated news, what in the world is the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village doing with that telescope? Does he really have Kalphites under his bed? Is he actually Guthix taking a break? Why does he keep all his maps on the floor? Is he really planning RuneScape's first bank job? What did he need those 8 lots of bronze maces for anyway? Only time will tell.
Finally, be on the lookout for more random characters and events around the map such as the Sandwich Lady, Evil Bob and Sebastian Gno, the fastest Gnome in the world. Dont ignore them! They dont like it when you ignore them...
Have a nice summer!
